The 1983 television film “Thursday’s Child” was one of Lowe’s earliest acting credits. He got a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries, & Television Film for his performance. In 1983, however, he made his film debut alongside Emilio Estevez and Patrick Swayze in Francis Ford Coppola’s coming-of-age drama “The Outsiders” Lowe and Estevez reunited for another teenager drama, “St. Elmo’s Fire” (1985), confirming their status as prominent members of the Brat Pack actor group. The following year, he starred in “About Last Night…” (1986) alongside Brat Pat bandmate Demi Moore. For his performance as the mentally disabled Rory in “Square Dance” (1987), he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for the second time.
