Alyssa Milano Career
When she was 11 years old, Milano made her film debut in the drama “Old Enough” in August 1984. First Prize at the Sundance Film Festival was awarded to the film. She was then cast as the daughter of Tony Danza’s character on the ABC sitcom “Who’s the Boss?”, which debuted in September 1984. To support her career that year, her entire family moved to Los Angeles, where the program was filmed and produced. She starred on the program for 196 episodes covering eight seasons until its cancellation in 1992. This role established her as a household name and teenage idol and allowed her to play many other roles. For example, she co-starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1985 film “Commando” when she was 12 years old. She starred in stage productions such as “Tender Offer” by Wendy Wasserstein, “All Night Long” by John O’Keefe, & “Butterflies Are Free” in Los Angeles (December 1991 – January 1992).
Following her performance, a Japanese producer offered Milano a five-album record contract. Only four studio albums were released: “Look in My Heart” (1989), “Alyssa” (1989), “Locked in a Dream” (1991), and “Do You See Me?” (1992). Milano herself has described the general sound of the albums as “bubblegum pop” and has been overtly critical of their musical quality. Her musical career performed well overseas; she achieved platinum status in Japan. She chose not to pursue a music career in the United States, stating that she would “much rather have [her music] released in a place where it is appreciated rather than mocked.”
She continued to work on various projects, such as producing the adolescent workout video “Teen Steam” and starring in television films such as “Crash Course” (1988) and “Dance til’ Dawn” (1988), as well as the independent film “Where the Day Takes You” (1992). Milano appeared in several erotic films such as “Embrace of the Vampire” (1995) & “Deadly Sins” (1995) to distance herself from the “nice girl” image established by her work on “Who’s the Boss?” She appeared in several nude parts in these films.
From 1995 to 1998, Milano starred in Seasons 5 through 7 of “Melrose Place” as Jennifer Mancini. After quitting “Melrose Place,” she joined the cast of “Charmed” as Phoebe Halliwell. The series aired for eight seasons until 2006. Milano began producing the fifth season of “Charmed” in addition to her role as a performer on the show. She has since appeared on television programs such as “Mistresses” (2013-2014) and “Insatiable” (2018-2019). Milano has appeared in films such as “My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend” (2010) and “Hall Pass” (2011) in addition to her work on television.
