Joe and his siblings Kevin and Nick recorded their debut single, “Please Be Mine,” in 2005. Steve Greenberg, president of Columbia Records, signed the group after hearing their composition. After briefly discussing the name Sons of Jonas, they chose The Jonas Brothers for their band. The Jonas Brothers toured throughout 2005 with Kelly Clarkson, Jesse McCartney, and the Click Five, among others, while working on their debut album. In 2005, their debut single, “Mandy,” was released. During this period, the band began appearing on Disney Channel soundtracks and touring with the musical duo Ally and AJ.
The band released their debut album, “It’s About Time,” in August 2006 before contracting with Hollywood Records; Columbia Records had little interest in promoting the album and had little interest in promoting the band. Later, it was disclosed that they were dropped from the label. The music video for the second single from the album, “Year 3000,” premiered on the Disney Channel in January 2007. “It’s About Time” sold 67,000 copies in the United States.
