Katherine Heigl Biography: Katherine Heigl was born Katherine Marie Heigl on November 24, 1978, in Washington, D.C. She grew up in New Canaan, Connecticut, with her mother, Nancy, father, Paul, and elder siblings Jason, Meg, and Holt. Unfortunately, Jason died in September 1986, a week after being injured in a car accident; his terrible death inspired Nancy, a Lutheran, and Paul, a Catholic, to convert to Mormonism. Heigl was raised in the religion since the age of eight.
Katherine began modeling at the age of nine after her aunt sent photos of her to Wilhelmina Models. She began appearing in magazine advertisements, catalogs from Sears and Lord & Taylor, and TV commercials and films soon followed. Heigl had to miss up to three months of school while attending New Canaan High School to film movies. However, she sought to fit her film and modeling work into weekends and vacations wherever possible. Katherine’s parents divorced in 1996, and Nancy had breast cancer; after nine months of chemotherapy, she became Katherine’s manager.
