Song Yu Qi Biography: Chinese singer and songwriter Song Yuqi was born on September 23, 1999. In China, she is active as a soloist and is also a part of the South Korean girl group named (G)I-dle, in which she made her debut in 2018. Since 2019, she has been a cast member of the Chinese variety show Keep Running and has also hosted the KakaoTV reality show Learn Way (2020–2021).

Early Life

On September 23, 1999, in Beijing, China’s Song Yuqi was born. She attended Beijing 101 Middle School. At Beijing Station in 2015, Song attended the Cube Star World Audition, where she performed CLC’s “High Heels” and G.E.M.’s “Bubble.” She became a trainee at Cube Entertainment after passing her audition. She made an appearance in a YouTube Video in February 2018 where she introduced herself as an idol trainee. In that video she was asking the passersby to listen to her singing. After she made her debut with (G)I-dle, the video received attention.

Career

2018: Debut with (G)I-DLE

Yuqi was revealed as the first member of (G)I-DLE on April 8, 2018. On May 2, with their first mini album, I Am, the group officially debuted.

2019: Keep Running

On April 21, 2019, it was announced that Yuqi would be joining the main cast of the Chinese variety show Keep Running. On April 23, 2020, it was confirmed that Yuqi was going to be returning as a cast member for the show’s eighth season.

2020: King of Mask Singer

Yuqi took part in the show King of Mask Singer on November 1. In a duet with her competitor, she first sang Lee Hi’s “Holo,” and then she sang 2NE1’s “Missing You” by herself after she was eliminated before revealing her identity. With both her fluent Korean pronunciation and her unique vocal tone, the panelists were impressed.

2021: “A Page,” Stage Boom

On May 5, it was announced that Yuqi was going to release her first solo digital single, “A Page,” on May 13.

She also took part in the Chinese survival show Stage Boom, which started airing on iQIYI on August 6, in order to get a chance to stay on the show and perform one more time as the show had a total of 33 performances. Ten female singers compete with each other. While expressing herself she said that she is seen as an entertainer so this show is the best opportunity for her to show her singing talent in China where she is not as much known as she is overseas.

2024: “Could It Be,” solo debut with Yuq1

On March 22, it was announced by Cube Entertainment that Yuqi would make her official solo debut by the end of April. On April 1, it was announced that she would be releasing the digital single “Could It Be” on April 5 as a pre-release for her solo debut mini album, Yuq1, which will be released on April 23.
