Roopa Ganguly Family & Personal Life:
Born on 25 November 1966 in Kolkata, West Bengal, Roopa is the daughter of Samarendra Lal Ganguly and Juthika Ganguly. As a child, Roopa lived in a joint family in Calcutta (present day Kolkata) and completed her education from a local school of Calcutta. Roopa revealed that she had to suffer a lot during her college days and she joined politics in 2015 as the member of Bharatiya Janata Party of West Bengal.
As of now, Roopa Ganguly is a divorced single mother of son, Aakash Mukherjee. She tied the knot with Dhrubo Mukherjee, a mechanical engineer from West Bengal in 1992 and later they got separated in 2007 due to her extra marital affair and live in relationship with Bengali singer Dibyendu Mukherjee.

As a child, Roopa Ganguly never thought of becoming an actress. However she was suggested to do acting by some of her relatives and introduced to Bijoy Chatterjee during a wedding ceremony. Bijoy was looking for a new and young face to cast in his short film, Nirupama. Initially Roopa hesitated and denied the offer but later on she accepted it on insistence by her aunt Soumitra Chatterjee. The film came out in 1986 and became the first debut of Roopa on Indian Television. The film was loved by the public and after that Roopa got many such offers to work in hit Bengali pictures and TV dramas.
After working in many regional movies and Bengali TV series Rupa got an offer from BR Chopra. He was quite impressed by Roopa’s performance in the television series Ganadevta and decided to cast her in his TV series Mahabharat. In 1992, Ganguly appeared in a Bengali film directed by Goutam Ghose. This award winning movie was Padma Nadir Majhi where she portrayed the role of Kapila, a woman from the fisherman community and her love story with her sister’s husband.
After this Rupa appeared in many award winning movies including Yugant (1996), Bariwali (2000), Dekha (2001), Antarmahal (2005) and Krantikaal (2005). Rupa contested the election for West Bengal assembly in 2016 in which she lost from Howrah North to Trinamool Congress counterpart and cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shukla. Later in 2016, Roopa was attacked by Trinamool Congress workers while she was on her way to home. It is known that Roopa at that time was returning from Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas where she had gone to meet the victims of political violence.
