Charlie’s early interest in acting began when, at age nine, he played a supporting role in one of his father’s features. He also made his films with colleagues like Chris Penn and Rob Lowe, who were yet to be famous. In the early 1970s, Sheen made his film debut in uncredited roles in two films starring his father: “Badlands” & “The Execution of Private Slovik.” His first significant role was in the 1984 teenage Cold War film “Red Dawn.” The following year, Sheen starred in the drama “The Boys Next Door.” 1986 was his most successful year, beginning with supporting roles in the teen movies “Lucas” and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Later that year, Sheen starred in “The Wraith” and “Platoon,” Oliver Stone’s Vietnam War film that earned the Academy Award for Best Picture.
