He received his higher education at King’s College, Cambridge, where he studied history. Rushdie began his career as a copywriter for the advertising companies Ogilvy & Mather and Ayer Barker. He also wrote the lyrics for an advertising record for the Burnley Building Society alongside musician Ronnie Bond.
