Born on 7 January 1961, Supriya belongs to a family that has been serving the acting industry and Hindi cinema since a long time. Her mother Dina Pathak was a Gujarati theatre artist and veteran actor. Her father Baldev Pathak was a dressmaker to the popular Bollywood producers Rajesh Khanna and Dilip Kumar. Her sister Ratna Pathak is also an actress and theatre artist.

Supriya did her schooling from J.B. Vachha High School, Mumbai. After completing her schooling, Supriya got herself enrolled into the Nalanda Dance Research Centre, University of Mumbai and did her graduation in fine arts with Bharatanatyam as an honours.

Supriya Pathak made her first television industry debut with the play Maina Gurjari which was directed by her mother Dina Pathak. After her first debut, Supriya was seen in another play, Biwiyon Ka Madersa. In 1981, Supriya portrayed the role of Subhadra in Shyam Benegal’s home production, Kalyug. Supriya’s acting was loved and appreciated by people throughout the world and fetched her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Supriya has worked in many hit movies including Vijeta (1982), Bazaar (1982), Masoom (1983), Mirch Masala (1985), Akalathe Ambili (1985) and Raakh (1989), Sarkaar (2005), Sarkar Raj (2008). However, Supriya gained fame and recognition after portraying the role of Hansa Parekh in the Khichdi franchise.
Supriya along with her husband Pankaj launched their own TV production house, Grass Company in 1994. The first film of their production house in which the couple acted themselves was Mohandas Ba. LLB.
