Controversy
Actor Suriya had visited the Keezhadi Museum with his wife and actress Jyotika, children Diya and Dev and parents, veteran actor Shivakumar and his wife Lakshmi. His visit to the museum was coordinated by Su Venkatesan, a popular writer and Member of Parliament from Madurai constituency. It was further written in Surya’s tweet that “This is the beginning of the Vaigai civilization of Tamils.
However, this soon turned into a controversy. Some people on social media alleged that the public, including students, had to wait in the sun outside the gate even after the museum’s opening hours to accommodate the celebrity visit. Some people also questioned whether the actor is adopting double standards as he advocates equality both on and off screen.
Meanwhile, a source told us that it was actually not the actor’s fault here. “After the inauguration, the museum was initially functioning from 9 am to 5 pm. But the timings were changed – from 10 am to 6 pm – and it came into effect from April 1. Keeping this in mind, in an effort to avoid the crowd, Surya and his family visited the place before its opening time after obtaining special permission. In fact, Surya had also bought the first ticket of the day. The trip was organized by Su Venkatesan, who was with the family the entire time. However many members of the public were not aware of the museum’s timing change and arrived at the gate as early as 9 a.m. Perhaps the museum security could have taken into account that there were school students among the visitors, and let them in. But Suriya had no role in keeping them outside. And he was not aware of the crowd of people waiting outside.
