Wentworth Miller Biography: Wentworth Miller III was born on June 2, 1972, in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, as Wentworth Earl Miller III. When Miller was born, his American parents, Roxann and Wentworth (a teacher and lawyer), were in England because his father was a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford. Wentworth’s father is of African-American, German, Jamaican, & English origin, while his mother is of Russian, French, Lebanese, Swedish, Syrian, and Dutch family.
Miller’s family moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn, when he was very young, and he attended Midwood High School in Brooklyn and Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1990. Wentworth received successive A’s in high school and was a member of the school newspaper and the AV club. Wentworth came out as gay in a letter published on the GLAAD website in 2013, stating that he would not attend the Saint Petersburg International Film Festival because of Russia’s LGBT propaganda law and the fact that “people like [him]self are being systematically denied their basic right to live and love openly” in the country. Miller said at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner in 2013 that he tried suicide multiple times as a teenager.
He also discussed his desire to keep secret his sexuality after becoming famous on “Prison Break,” saying, “When I thought about the possibility of coming out, and how it would impact me and the career I had worked so hard for, I was filled with fear.” When a meme criticizing his weight began circulating in 2016, Miller responded on Facebook, claiming that when the photo was shot in 2010, he was suicidal and used food to cope. Miller first appeared on TV in a 1998 episode of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Two years later, he was in a “Romeo and Juliet” movie that was made for direct-to-video.
