Career
Pandya played a key role in Baroda winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the 2013–14 season. In January 2016, he scored an unbeaten 86 runs in which he hit eight sixes. Led his team Baroda to a six-wicket win over Vidarbha cricket team to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Indian Premier League
Pandya played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL from 2015 to 2021. In a must-win match for Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders to stay in the playoff race, he won the match for his team by scoring 61 runs on 31 balls. In this match, he was given the title of second man of the match of the season. He was then signed by the Ahmedabad franchise, Gujarat Titans and was named the captain of the team. Pandya led Gujarat to their first IPL title in 2022. He became the first captain after Shane Warne to lead a new team and win the IPL title.
International Career
Pandya made his Twenty20 International debut for India on 27 January 2016 at the age of 22, taking 2 wickets against Australia. In the second T20 against Sri Lanka in Ranchi, he batted ahead of Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni and Thisara Perera scored 27 runs in 14 balls before becoming the victim of a hat-trick. In the Asia Cup 2016, Pandya scored 31 runs in 18 balls to help India post a respectable score against Bangladesh. Later, he also took a wicket to seal the win. In the next match against Pakistan, he also took 3 wickets for 8 runs which was his best performance and restricted Pakistan to 83.
In September 2021, Pandya was named in India’s squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. However, Pandya failed to make the impact as expected. He had scored 11 runs against Pakistan. Pandya was selected as an all-rounder. However he bowled only 2 overs against New Zealand without taking any wickets and gave away 17 runs. His lack of runs and inability to contribute with the ball led to him being dropped from the squad for the post-World Cup T20I series against New Zealand.
