Personal Life

He is the elder brother of fellow Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya. He married Pankhuri Sharma. The couple have a son, poet Krunal Pandya, born on 18 July 2022.

In January 2022, Pandya’s Twitter account was hacked, and suspicious tweets from an alleged Bitcoin scammer were posted. Later, all of the hacker’s tweets were deleted and Pandya posted an apology.

Career

Pandya made his first-class debut on 6 October 2016. When he played for Baroda during the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy tournament. Within the next few months, he became the leading run scorer and leading wicket-taker for Baroda in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored 366 runs in 8 matches at an average of 45.75 and strike rate of 81.33. This included three half-centuries, with his highest score being 78 runs. In bowling, he took 11 wickets in 8 matches with an economy rate of 4.82, an average of 25.09 and a strike rate of 31.10. His best bowling score was 4/20 during eight matches. In 2017 he featured in India’s tri-series victory over South Africa A and Afghanistan A.

He was the leading run-scorer for Baroda in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Pandya was named the captain of Baroda for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019–2020.

He was selected to play for Warwickshire County Cricket Club in the 2022 Royal London One-Day Cup.

International Career

In October 2018, Pandya was named in India’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the tour against the West Indies and Australia. He made his T20I debut for India against West Indies on 4 November 2018, taking one wicket and scoring 21 not out from 9 balls. He was selected for India’s Twenty20 International squad against Australia and played all three matches. . In the first match he conceded 55 runs in four overs, but took 1/26 in the second T20I and won the Player of the Match award for his bowling performance of 4/36 in four overs in the third match.

In March 2021, he was named in India’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the series against England. He made his ODI debut for India against England on 23 March 2021 and scored an unbeaten 58. His was the fastest half-century scored off 26 balls in a debut ODI match.

Controversy

In the IPL 2023 match in Lucknow on Tuesday, Marcus Stoinis scored an unbeaten 89 against Mumbai Indians to give Krunal Pandya-led Lucknow Super Giants a boost. Pandya played the role of anchor and was batting on 49 runs off 42 balls at the end of the 16th over when he was seen faltering. He subsequently left the field before the start of the next over, causing confusion as to whether he was retired hurt or retired out. Although it is acceptable for a batsman to declare himself out at any time during his innings, the exact nature of Pandya’s dismissal is unclear.

Pandya got injured in his leg while trying to take a quick single on the last ball of the 16th over. Although he didn’t feel much pain, he decided to go back to the dressing room.
