The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to “a medical request” to the Los Angeles residence Murphy and Monjack shared at 8:00 a.m. on December 20, 2009. She had passed out in a bathroom. On the scene, firefighters attempted to resuscitate Murphy. She was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and died at 10:04 a.m. after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The day after she died, an autopsy was performed. In a February 2010 report, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office stated that the death was accidental & that the cause of death was pneumonia, with secondary factors of severe iron deficiency anemia and multiple drug intoxication.
