Orlando Bloom Biography: Orlando Copeland, Jonathan Blanchard Bloom was born in Canterbury, Kent, on January 13, 1977. Sonia Constance Josephine (née Copeland), his mother, was born in India and raised in Australia and Japan. Bloom thought his biological father was his mother’s spouse, the anti-Apartheid South African novelist Harry Saul Bloom, who died when he was four years old until he was thirteen. His mother later revealed that his biological father was a family friend (and his mother’s companion) named Colin Stone.
Bloom attended St Edmund’s School in Canterbury before moving to London in 1993 to attend Fine Arts College, Hampstead, where he studied drama, photography, and sculpture for two years. He then became a member of the National Youth Theatre and received a scholarship at the British American Drama Academy. His first professional acting jobs were in episodes of “Casualty” and “Midsomer Murders,” as well as the 1997 feature “Wilde.” Following these activities, he enrolled in London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama to study acting.

Orlando Bloom received his first significant part only two days after graduating from Guildhall in 1999. He played Legolas in “The Lord of the Rings” film trilogy (2001-2003); he appeared in “The Fellowship of the Ring” (2001), “The Two Towers” (2002), & “The Return of the King” (2003). The ensemble of the “Rings” films was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Best Ensemble Acting Award for three straight years, eventually winning in 2003 for the third “Ring” film.
