Sharon Osbourne Career
At the age of 27, Sharon’s father dismissed Ozzy Osbourne. Sharon later became Ozzy Osbourne’s manager and assisted in the birth of his solo career. She later arranged the recording of his first solo album, Blizzard of Ozz. The initial steps consisted of finding him another band. The album was an outstanding achievement, selling over 6 million copies. With Diary of a Madman, Ozzy’s next album, she assumed a more direct role in managing the entire band. Two ensemble members were fired after complaining about receiving inadequate compensation for their efforts.
A second controversial incident occurred during the band’s tour after the publication of Diary of a Madman. Randy Rhoades, the main guitarist and driving force behind Ozzy’s successful career, was tragically killed in a plane crash. In typical drug-fueled fashion, Rhoades and a group of tour personnel decided to see how close they could get to the tour bus while flying a small plane at a low altitude. Randy Rhoades was unaware of the chaos, as he preferred a sober lifestyle and only boarded the aircraft to take photographs with his new camera.
Sharon Osbourne subsequently proceeded to manage Ozzy’s career. She regularly dismissed members of the bands for unexplained reasons, and her management style was controversial. Nevertheless, Ozzy’s solo career was highly successful, and to date, he has released 12 albums under Sharon Osbourne’s management.
Sharon began managing other bands with her newly founded management company, Sharon Osbourne Management, after gaining access to Ozzy Osbourne. She has worked with well-known bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Queen, and Motorhead as the sole employee of the corporation. She has also guided her children, Kelly and Jack, in their musical efforts.
Sharon was a motivating force behind Ozzy’s musical success, but she did not achieve wide popularity until the premiere of The Osbournes. Sharon quickly became a well-known figure in the entertainment industry after the 2002 premiere of her MTV program. Sharon was intimately involved in negotiations with MTV, and it has been rumored that this was part of a plan to propel Ozzy Osbourne into mainstream celebrity status and out of the “cult figure” mold of the heavy metal scene. The program aired until 2005 and throughout Sharon’s cancer battle. The show’s ratings were exceptionally high in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Sharon Osbourne was reportedly paid approximately $12 million for her role in The Osbournes.
In 2003, shortly after the debut of The Osbournes, Sharon began hosting her program. The Sharon Osbourne Show contained a few controversial and unique moments, but it could have been more successful. Her show was terminated in 2004. In 2006, she was allowed to host a talk program with The Sharon Osbourne program on ITV. Reportedly, her contract for the program was worth $2 million.
