Education
Deepak completed his schooling from St. George’s College, Barlowganj, Mussoorie. After completing his graduation in History from Hansraj College, Delhi University, he was interested in electronic gadgets in his childhood. He did M.Phil from JNU itself.
Deepak Rawat met his wife Vijeta Singh during his graduation from Hansraj College. Shortly after meeting, both of them fell in love and got married. His wife Vijeta Singh is an officer in the Judicial Service and has been a Metropolitan Magistrate in Patiala House Court, Delhi.
College life
When Deepak was 24 years old, his father stopped giving him money, after which he started becoming independent. As soon as the JRF results came out, he started getting Rs 8000 as monthly stipend, which helped him meet his expenses. However, Deepak always had bigger dreams.
As soon as he completed his graduation from Hansraj College, Delhi University, his life took a 360 degree turn, during his college life he met many Biharis who were UPSC aspirants. Had it not been for civil services, Deepak would have chosen journalism as his career. It is a tradition to do UPSC in Bihar; Hence Deepak developed interest in this field.
UPSC Struggle
Deepak did his post graduation in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru College. During his post-graduation studies, he also started preparing for civil services. Even after persistent efforts and hard work, he could not crack the UPSC exam in his first two attempts. However, these setbacks, instead of shaking his determination to become an IAS officer, made him more resilient. He passed his exam on the third attempt.
After passing the Civil Services Examination, he was selected not for the IAS but for the IRS; So, he again prepared thoroughly for it and achieved the post of IAS which he always desired. He passed UPSC examination in the year 2007. After completing his training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Deepak Rawat became an IAS officer of the Uttarakhand cadre.
Career
Rawat is a 2007 batch IAS officer. He has served in various positions as District Magistrate. He is known to have conducted several raids during his tenure.
Rawat has said that Anil Kumar Raturi, a retired IPS officer, inspired him to pursue a career in civil services.

In his third attempt, Rawat successfully passed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. After that he was appointed to the Indian Revenue Service (IRS – Customs).

Rawat continued his preparation. He successfully passed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination (CSE) twice, which resulted in his appointment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
He was posted as the District Magistrate of Bageshwar. And he was transferred as the Managing Director of Kumaon Development Board. Later transferred as District Magistrate of Nainital and Haridwar respectively.
He was further appointed as Haridwar Kumbh Mela Officer. And is currently working as the Commissioner of Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand.

Controversy
Supreme Court warning
In December 2018, a bench of the Supreme Court of India led by Justice Ranjan Gogoi issued a warning to Rawat. He and his subordinate, Roorkee Joint Magistrate Nikita Khandelwal, were allegedly carrying out a demolition drive in Jaurasi village. Where he violated established court procedures during the operation. The court warned Rawat to follow the orders of the court and avoid any such actions. Which can be considered a violation.
Attempted murder charges
In January 2018, during his tenure as collector in Haridwar, a case of attempt to murder was filed against Rawat by a priest. Pujari alleged that Rawat, along with his assistant, assaulted him in a closed room. The incident occurred in the context of a dispute over land use between the government and an ashram. Rawat denied the allegations and claimed that they were part of a larger conspiracy to defame him. However, the incident was widely reported in the media and questions were raised about Rawat’s conduct as a government official.
