Jessica Chastain Biography
Jessica Chastain Biography: Jessica Michelle Chastain was born in Sacramento, California, on March 24, 1977. Jessica was born when her parents, Jerri Renee Hastey and Michael Monasterio (a singer), were teenagers. Monasterio, who died in 2013, is not named on Chastain’s birth certificate, and the two were estranged. Jessica grew raised with two sisters and two brothers, including Jerri, a vegan chef who afterward married firefighter Michael Hastey; unfortunately, her younger sister Juliet committed suicide in 2003. Chastain became interested in performing when she was 7 years old after seeing a “Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” performance with her grandmother.
Jessica went to El Camino Fundamental High School but did not graduate due to too many absences; she eventually got an adult diploma. Chastain attended the Oregon Shakespeare Festival as a teenager and claimed, “I hated being in classes — I felt like I wasn’t learning anything — so I would sit in my car and read ‘As You Like It.'” Jessica attended Sacramento City College from 1996 to 1997, where she joined the debate team, before moving to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she graduated in 1998. That same year, she played Juliet in a TheatreWorks production of “Romeo and Juliet,” which led to Chastain auditioning for the Juilliard School. She obtained a scholarship from Robin Williams and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2003.
