His earliest acting roles were made up primarily of commercials and bit parts. To create his opportunities, he began pitching his article ideas to magazines when he could not secure a critical position. The Jeff Tremaine-led skateboarding magazine Big Brother was impressed by his plan to test self-defense equipment on himself, and he offered him the opportunity to film utilizes for their Number Two video. Knoxville, Tremaine, Sean Cliver, and Dave Carnie created a pilot using Big Brother and Bam Margera’s CKY videos. Spike Jonze, a friend of Tremaine and a film director, assisted them in selling the series to various networks. MTV enjoyed the pilot and made a deal with the entrepreneur, creating the show Jackass. Due to its content, which many deemed to be indecent, inappropriate, and encouraging dangerous behavior, the program caused substantial controversy.
