Early Life and Education
Shukla was born on 5th March, 1963 in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh in India. He spent most of his childhood in Delhi, there only he did his schooling in a Government Co-ed Senior Secondary School. After the completing of his schooling, he started pursuing Bachelor’s degrees in Commerce from Khalsa College in Delhi University. Apart from being an average student he was always enthusiastic about theatre and acting.

After getting his graduation completed, he started his career as a theatre actor, in Delhi. He worked with many well-known theatre groups there like Act One, Asmita Theatre Group, and NSD Repertory Company. Apart from acting, he is good in writing and directing plays.
In 1991, his debut movie was made in Bollywood name- Bandit Queen. Though, he played small role in movie, but it was loved and appreciated by audience and opened door of more working opportunities for him in many other movies. Then he did worked in many other movies like Satya, Zakhm and Calcutta Mail.
In 2000, he written and directed a movies “Mudda: the issue” starring Arya Babbar, Rekha Vedavyas and Rajat Kapoor, though was not a hit in box office but received massive applause for direction and storyline.
In 2003, he appeared in the movie Jolly LLB, where he portrayed the role of Justice Sunderlal Tripathi. This film was a blast and was appreciated. He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. After that, he did acting in some other movies like Lage Raho Munna Bhai, Barfi and PK.
In 2013, he wrote and directed the movie IM24 where actors like Neha Dhupia, Rajat Kapoor, and Manjari Fadnis played role. In 2018, he appeared in movie Raid, playing the role of Rameshwar Singh this movie was widely appreciated and he won Filmfare award for Best supporting actor for his performance. He then appeared in movies like Article 15, Pagalpanti and Chichore.
Apart from working in Movies, he also worked in TV shows Comedy Night with Kapil in 2014, and Yudh in 2014, starred Amitabh Bachchan.
